Growing In Soil

Growing in soil under HID lights is one of the most popular way of growing especially with people who prefer organic growing.  The yields are good (but not as good as hydroponics) and the taste is good.

The first thing to do is get a good soil mix.  We would mix one part soil with one part perlite and one part vermiculite.  This would give you good drainage for water and create good oxygen flow to the roots.

Good soil is very important in that mix, the soil provides a place for the roots to live, so a little more expense than general garden soil is recommended.  Some people also use bat guano to add a little nutrient to the soil.  With bat guano in your mix you would not need to feed the plants for approximately the first 3 weeks.

As with most ways of growing, grow the plants up to a certain size before transplanting into larger pots.  We would use either jiffy 7 peat pellets or biodegradable root riot cubes to root and a smaller pot to grow a good, strong root ball.  Then transplant into larger pots
