Air cooled shades are a great way to keep the heat produced by the lights down to a minimum, they are largely used in areas where keeping the heat down is crucial.

They work by pulling cool air through the shade and past the bulb and are very effective in doing this as long as the correct fan is used, many growers connect them to each other with flexible ducting then expel the air from the room.

Some growers even use the main extractor fan and pull the air past the bulbs and out but remember you still need to put the carbon filter before the first light.

More experienced growers tend to have a separate inlet and outlet in order to maximize the cooling effect, this method does not require a filter.
